PhotoInPrint was founded in Calgary, Canada in 2023. We saw a clear need in the photo printing market. On one side, there were large retailers offering low-cost prints but mostly on poor-quality cheap paper, with very limited customization options. On the other side, there were premium services providing exhibition-quality prints on the finest paper, but at a very high price.
We realized this when we tried to print several small-sized (4x6) images on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta. The price we found was $10 per image, or $100 for 10 small images.
Why do small-sized images cost so much? Usually, 4x6 images are what people keep in family albums. Why should people have to choose between poor quality or paying a high price? we asked ourselves. That’s why we decided to establish an online company that would help photographers and everyday people print their photos on high-quality paper — at a reasonable cost. We also decided it should operate entirely online to be accessible to as many photographers as possible.
Some might suggest buying your own high-quality printer as a solution to get both good quality and lower costs. However, when you add up the price of a high-end printer, the cost of ink, maintenance, and consider how many prints you actually need in a year, it turns out to be quite expensive. This approach is neither cost-effective nor convenient for most people.
