Places where you can buy the frame

frames

We are not talking about small frame, 4x6 inches image for example – it’s easy, it just fits into a specific image size, so you can buy a frame, insert a picture and put it on the table.

Let's consider how to print your image in order to it fit frame and mat you choose

For a big-size frames the process is much more complicated. Quite often big-size frames have a mat, and printed image should be a little bit bigger than a space in the mat. Simultaneously printed image should have margins that are big enough to fix the image inside the frame. Even if your frame doesn’t have a mat, you might want to leave big or small margins around you image.

Let's consider $10 12x16 inches (310x410mm) frame from the store, see image below.

frame with sizes

The main question most people have about frames larger than 4x6 inches is how to print the image from their smartphone or camera so that it fits the frame they see in the store.

Two criteria should be met to properly fit the photo into the frame:

  • You need to print your image on paper that is the same size or smaller than the inner dimensions of the frame to ensure it fits properly when inserted, but it should be large enough to secure it in the frame without falling out.
  • You need to print the image with printable area that is a little bit bigger than the mat space. It should be bigger to overlap the mat a little bit so you don’t have a white line between the mat and the image. If you don’t have a mat, but want to have margins you need to choose margins sizes.

Thus, in addition to choosing the paper size, it's also necessary to select the printable area or set the margins.
