Preparing Your Photography for Printing

When it comes to transforming your digital images into high-quality prints, the preparation process is key. At Photoinprint, we strive to ensure that the printed product accurately reflects your vision. To help you achieve the best possible outcome, here's a guide on how to prepare your photography for printing.

Choosing the Right File Format

For optimal print quality, we recommend submitting your images in JPEG or TIFF format. While both formats are suitable, it's important to note that JPEG files can be compressed. To maintain the highest quality, opt for JPEGs without compression or use TIFF format, which preserves all image details without any loss.

Choose the image size you want to print

Choosing the image size for printing is very important part of printing process. You need to consider the viewing distance the image will be observed, the focal length of the lens used to capture the image, your photo camera sensor size. Image resolution should be considered as well. These parameters are crucial considerations when deciding to print an image. You can find detailed article about how to choose the image sizes for printing, we also provide the online image size calculator, to help photographer in image sizes and parameters calculations.

Monitor Calibration for Accurate Colors

For those who are particular about color accuracy, calibrating your monitor is a crucial step. Calibrated monitors ensure that the colors you see on screen will closely match the printed colors. Most modern monitors offer an sRGB mode, which adjusts settings like brightness and color temperature to align with the standard RGB color space. This is a straightforward and reliable option if you don't have access to a calibrator. Additionally, ensure that any night mode settings or software that alters screen colors are disabled, and try to edit and review your images in daylight conditions to prevent external lighting from affecting color perception.

Color Space and Image Resolution

Ensure that your images are saved in the sRGB color space, either in 8-bit or 16-bit files, to guarantee the best color reproduction. The resolution of your image should correlate with the print size you desire. Generally, an image resolution ranging from 16 to 24 megapixels suffices for prints up to 20×30 inches. However, the viewing distance also plays a role in determining the necessary resolution. Images intended for closer inspection require higher resolution than those designed to be viewed from afar. Remember, the image quality also depends on the source, with photos taken on cameras with high-quality lenses typically offering better results than those from smartphones, even at the same megapixel count.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your photographs are perfectly prepared for printing, resulting in prints that you'll be proud to display. At Photoinprint, we're dedicated to providing you with prints that capture the essence of your work, exactly as you envision it.

Image Editing and Retouching

At Photoinprint, we print your images exactly as they are provided. This policy is in place because editing and retouching are highly subjective and vary greatly according to personal taste and style preferences. We believe that you're the best judge of how your images should look. If your photos require any retouching, we recommend doing it yourself or working with a professional editor who aligns with your style for consistent and satisfying results.
